What WILL get you in trouble when traveling in China?

(Pro tips you actually need)

1. Payments

China is super cashless.

Almost everyone uses Alipay or WeChat Pay for everything.

  • Credit cards & cash still work fine for most restaurants, shops, and hotels.
  • You won’t get stuck with only cards and cash.
  • But if you activate Alipay (international version), your life will get 10x easier — especially for apps, delivery, and small street shops.

No app = no problem.

App = super convenient.

2. Internet & WiFi

  • Public WiFi exists, but can be slow in crowded places.
  • Just ask any café or restaurant staff — they’ll happily give you their WiFi.
  • For reliable internet everywhere, buy an eSIM before you arrive.

⚠️ Important:

Some foreign apps & websites don’t work in China.

Plan ahead so you don’t panic.

3. Language

Most people don’t speak English, especially in small local restaurants and shops.

Menus often have no English.

⚠️ Important:

  • Use a translation app (like Google Translate)
  • Or bring a small translator device

It will make your trip so much smoother.

4. Electronics

  • China uses different plug types. Bring a universal adapter.
  • For planes:

Power banks must have a 3C mark

AND be under 20,000 mAh.

No 3C mark = they will take it away.

Double-check before you fly!

China is easy & safe to travel.

Just avoid these small mistakes — and you’ll have an amazing trip.
