Is it safe to travel to China?

1. Is my property safe?

China is already a cashless society with widespread mobile payments.

As a result, pickpocketing is extremely rare—it has almost disappeared in daily life.

  • If you leave valuables in a taxi, the ride-hailing platform will help you get them back.
  • If you leave things on a bus or subway, they are usually kept at the station office until you claim them.

However, you should be careful with online scams.

Although the Chinese government has strict regulations, online fraud still exists occasionally.

Precautions:

  • Do not register or download unknown apps, except for large, official platforms.
  • Shop through official channels.
  • Do not click on strange links or download untrusted apps.

2. Is my personal safety guaranteed?

China is one of the safest countries in the world for travelers.

Violent crime, robbery, and theft are very uncommon.

The main thing to watch out for is traffic safety:

China has a large population and many vehicles, especially electric scooters and bikes.

Precautions:

  • Always wear a seatbelt, whether sitting in the front or back.
  • When walking on sidewalks, don’t look at your phone—pay attention to bicycles and electric scooters.

3. Will my personal information be leaked?

Hotels, long-distance transport, and major shopping platforms in China require real-name registration with your phone number.

Under the Personal Information Protection Law of China, your information is legally protected.

Precautions:

  • Only provide your passport, visa, or bank details for official procedures.
  • Use trustworthy, privacy-protected platforms when you have to share information.
  • For public transport, you can use physical travel cards (no real-name required) to avoid extra information disclosure.

China is absolutely safe for travelers and is widely recognized as one of the safest countries in the world.

You are warmly welcome to visit and experience it in person!
